Kings On Ice. Tribute to Chopin - Varsavia

Come secondo programma "Carmina Burana".
Ma come dimenticare Lambiel sulle note di "Take me to Church" o l'energia travolgente di Joubert.

Saturday, 02.27.2016 the huge stadion Zimowy Narodowy in Warsaw Poland was again the scene of the "Kings on Ice". Entertainment always made at a great level, as usual, by Ari Zakarian. A skating evening, of course, but called this time "Tribute to Chopin" with the presence of two winners of the Emmy Award: the well-known Edvin Marton, with his Stradivarius violin, and the Polish pianist Wlodek Pawlik, piano composer.
And about the skating, the rink saw Olympic gold medalists, world champions, European champions, national champions etc.
The cast included Plushenko, Sotnikova, Lambiel, Joubert, Righini, Verner, Balde.

The Warsaw's national stadium, which roof is covered in winter, hosts events of all kind including surfing competitions ... This event only required a portion of the stadium. The skating rink appeared larger than last year.

During the practice Evgeni landed double Axels, but he touched his shoulder many times, obviously in pain. He tried the group numbers and, eventually, its programs. The first, "Chopin" by Edvin Marton, has already been skated by him in 2009 in a few shows, but never in competitions. It's obviously been dusted off for the evening dedicated to the famous polish composer. The second program was "Carmina Burana".
Finally, when it all starts, with the opening number, it's obvious that a big applause goes to all athletes for the effort of skating in a very cold venue. Many programs skated by true Kings and Queens of the ice. We liked very much Tomas Verner on "Another Love" and Adelina Sotnikova with an expressive capacity that continues to grow. But how can we forget Lambiel on the song "Take Me to Church" or the overwhelming energy of Joubert? All the skaters have brought a lot of energy on the ice. The art of Marton and Pawlick completed the picture.

Evgeni takes the ice on the song "Chopin", and despite he didn't shine on the jump elements for the physical problems - that shortly after he himself declared to the press - he completed the program with an emotional intensity we believe more powerful than usual, which is already much more than the average of a "normal" skater ... yes, he touched us! Perhaps the physical suffering has done his part. Who knows ... Anyway watching it from very close has made us definitely aware of his great performance, the movements of his body and the intense expression on his face, combined to the wonderful music and his natural elegance made it perfect.
The interpretation, under the PCS perspective (ISU) basically consists in the movements of the body (only). But in any other art form, whether it's theater, opera or ballet, the facial expressions are an active complement of what the artist wants to convey. And Plushenko does this extremely well, since ages
After this masterpiece we were looking forward to see "Carmina Burana". But when, according to the ladder, it was the time, Evgeni didn't show on the ice. It was clear that he did everything that was possible to honor his duty, but the pain did not allow him to go any further. A big disappointment, but it's understandable.

He gave us the last exit in the finale - that included fireworks - on the notes of Italian "Il Mondo" and then "Grandioso" by Marton.
Shortly after Evgeni released a statement confirming to the agency Tass a slight injury.
It seems nothing to worry about then, apart from the pain.

A very special thank goes to Ari Zakarian, friendly and indefatigable. And it was of course a huge pleasure to meet again Edvin Marton, as famous as approachable and courteous

Speriamo...
